Letter apologizes for not attending the Historical Society "club" meeting because of a severe cold, and encloses his notes on his theory that Black Rock originally referred to Bird Island, and not the rock upon the mainland.

Born in Gorham, Ontario County, N.Y. on 20 Sept. 1806; came to Buffalo in 1824. Studied law with Heman B. Potter and, after being admitted to the bar, practiced in Buffalo with various partners. Millard Fillmore was born in Cayuga County, N.Y. and later became a resident of East Aurora and Buffalo. He was a lawyer, local office holder, State Assemblyman, U.S. Congressman, N.Y.
